Most days, this is what my writing ambiance feels like-- kitchen table set up, kiddos playing in the background, and usually some sort of Disney song blaring in my ear.
But it works... because I make it work.
I make it work because it's important to me and something I truly enjoy. Scratch that--it's something that feels necessary, almost like breathing, in order to keep me moving and going for another day.
At this point, I'm nearly done with my first go-through of revisions to my middle grade novel. I'm focusing only on pacing and plot, hoping to do one more once-over to pay attention to the setting and character voices. (Both of these things were suggested by my agent). I'm blessed to have a tremendous critique group as well, keeping me on top of everything and having wise sets of eyes for all my edits.
There's still a way to go, but I feel like I can see the light (and vision!) at the end of the tunnel. It's all in sight, just have to focus and not overcomplicate things or try to move too fast.
But, I must hunker down! This tunnel actually has many openings!!
Yesterday, I received an email that I literally have been waiting nearly half of a year for. I can't give away the details, but I have TWO other projects that I've been working on that are actually much further along in the publishing world than the middle grade work. I may have to drop poor Rutabaga Rae and pick her up again later, if I can't finish this book up soon.
At any rate, there are exciting and multifaceted things all around me. I'm grateful, albeit frantic, as I try to set aside time for all the things. Lucky for me, I have an understanding hubby and two cheerleading kiddos to give me the time I need.
So now I'll get back to my revisions before my head explodes altogether over this one particular scene involving a bully, a sphinx, and a pirate ship...
